Free AI Exterior Design Tools Compared: What Is Actually Free in 2026

Search for a free AI exterior design tool and every result says "free". Read the pricing pages and "free" means five different things: a handful of trial credits, a daily allowance that resets, a watermarked preview, a free plan that needs an account, or a tool that is free because it never charges. We read the pricing and product pages of ten tools that offer house exterior or garden design and wrote down exactly what each one gives away, when it asks for an account, and what the first paid step costs. The table is what we found on 24-25 August 2026; the sections after it explain how to choose, and what any of these tools can and cannot do for a real project.

What "free" means on each tool (checked 24-25 August 2026)

Rows are ordered from no-cost-at-all to trial-then-pay. "Account" is whether you must sign up before the first design. "Watermark" is what the tool itself says about free output; a dash means the page did not say. Prices are as printed on each pricing page in USD.

VisualGPT also advertises a free exterior generator but its site blocked our check, so it is not rated. HomeGPT is the publisher of this guide; the other rows quote the tools’ own pages and will be re-checked when they change.

How we checked

For each tool we opened the pricing page (or the landing page when no pricing page exists) on 24 or 25 August 2026 and copied what it says about free usage, account requirements, watermarks, supported spaces and the cheapest paid option. We did not rely on app-store descriptions, review sites or older blog posts, because those are where most "free AI exterior design" claims go stale.

Where a page was silent we wrote a dash rather than guessing. Where a page was contradictory (a "free" headline next to a credit counter) we quoted the more specific statement. HomeGPT is our own product; its row describes the product as it runs today - no account, no credits, no plans - and is the only row we can guarantee.

How to choose

The right tool depends on how many attempts you need and what you plan to do with the image.

  • You want to try several styles on your own house

Trial tiers of three to five designs run out on the second style. A tool with no credit counter (HomeGPT, Neighborbrite for yards) lets you iterate until the concept is right, which is where the real value of AI design sits.

  • You need a clean image to share or print

Check the watermark column first. Remodel AI removes the watermark only on Pro; Dehome sells watermark-free HD export; Spacely says its free plan is watermark-free. HomeGPT output has no watermark.

  • Your project is the yard, not the house

Neighborbrite is built for landscaping and does it free; REimagine Home covers landscaping and hardscaping on its paid plans. HomeGPT has a separate garden mode with its own style list, and pairs it with landscaping and paver calculators for the materials.

  • You are a professional producing client visuals

Credit-based tools with HD export and seat pricing (Spacely, REimagine Home, Dehome) are designed for that workflow. A free consumer tool is for exploring direction, not for deliverables.

What a free AI exterior tool can and cannot do

  • It shows direction, not drawings

AI renders are a fast way to compare colour, cladding, roof and planting ideas on a photo of your home. They are not elevations or plans; a contractor still measures and details the work.

  • Geometry can drift

Every tool in this list, including ours, sometimes changes window positions, roof pitch or the number of storeys. Treat the output as a mood board for your house, and re-run it if the result stops looking like your home.

  • Photos matter more than the tool

A straight-on, well-lit photo without cars, bins or people in front of the facade produces a usable concept far more often than a great tool with a poor photo.

  • Budget comes from quantities, not renders

Once a direction is chosen, price it from measurements: siding area, paint coverage, paver counts, lumber. That is why HomeGPT pairs each design page with a calculator and a cost guide.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a completely free AI exterior design tool?
Yes. HomeGPT is free to use with no account, no credits and no paid plan, and Neighborbrite is free for yard and landscaping designs once you sign in. Most other tools give a small trial (three to forty credits) and then charge.
Which AI exterior design tools do not need a sign-up?
Of the ten tools we checked, HomeGPT was the only one that generates a design without creating an account. The others ask you to sign up or install an app before the first design.
Do free AI design tools add a watermark?
Some do. Remodel AI lists "no watermark" as a Pro feature and Dehome sells watermark-free HD export, so their free output is watermarked or limited. Spacely states its free plan is watermark-free, and HomeGPT does not watermark output.
Can these tools redesign a garden or yard as well as the house?
HomeGPT, Spacely, REimagine Home, HomeDesigns.ai, Home Design AI and Dehome all cover exteriors and gardens. Neighborbrite covers yards only, and RoomGPT covers interior rooms only.
Will the AI result match my house exactly?
Not always. All of these tools can move windows, change roof pitch or alter proportions. Use a straight-on photo, run a few variations, and treat the output as a direction to price and discuss with a contractor rather than a drawing.
